Perhaps my favorite song of all time, “Bittersweet Symphony” is one of the best indie anthems out there. From the opening and uplifting violins to Richard Ashcroft’s soulful voice, this track exists on a plane for me unlike any other. It has the ability to transport the listener to a place of immediate freedom and weightlessness – a place I often like to visit. If I ever get married, I’m walking down the aisle to this song.
(The rights to the song were eventually transferred to The Rolling Stones‘ Mick Jagger and Keith Richards after allegations The Verve stole the original composition.)
