What I find most striking about this track is the beautifully elegiac tone of guitarist, Martin Gore. Though Depeche Mode‘s career undoubtably spawned several great singles and albums, “Judas” has remained my personal favorite. Its composition is haunting (“if you want my love”), yet strangely comforting. The track speaks of worship, love, and sacrifice – but unlike staunch preachers or scripture, the song doesn’t ring of religious fervor – it’s a much more artistic endeavor. The beauty of “Judas” never fails to leave me speechless.
